The Department of Revenue then sends a notice of controlled substance tax assessment, and if the assessment is not paid within a designated time, the Department of Revenue files a notice of tax lien in any county where the defendant has property. If the tax lien is not paid, the Department of Revenue can initiate proceedings to seize assets and real estate, which it will then sell-off at auction.
